Tempest World Championships 2008
WPNSA,UK
Event Summary
The Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA) successfully tracked racing from the Tempest World Championships across the World using the new Race-Trax Live Positioning System. This state of the art positioning system, attached to competing boats, allows friends and family to get closer to the action via a live internet feed of the positions of the boats as they compete in the racing.
Throughout the week long competition the conditions challenged the sailors with winds between 15 to 35 knots. Despite the testing conditions, the benefits of the legendary Weymouth Bay sailing waters were demonstrated with nine races successfully and safely sailed.
At the prize giving the competitors paid tribute to the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy as a world class venue facilitating nine races, as well as Race-Trax Live Positioning system being hailed a complete success.
With initial trials now completed, the Race-Trax Live Positioning System will now be used for the upcoming Sail for Gold Regatta, 15 to 20 September at the 2012 sailing venue in Weymouth and Portland.
This will be the first International Olympic classes event since the 2008 Games and will attract some of the medal heroes from Qingdao. Everyone can follow the action Live and through playback thanks to the new Race-Trax Live Positioning System.
