Course setting
With specially designed wind instruments attached to a mark or to a mark laying RIB, weather conditions may be monitored LIVE! - both afloat and ashore. This valuable information helps the Race Officer and his crew to know exactly where to lay a windward mark to ensure a fair and square beat, or the correct position of an outer distance mark (ODM), for an unbiased start line.
This image shows a race 13 seconds before the intended start time (1315hrs) and the Mark Setup page. Competitors remain temporarily hidden (to reduce on-screen clutter).
This pop-up window displays (specifically) Leg and Reference Position data. Range and bearing data is displayed for all legs as is the Windward Mark / Start Line bias : shown as starboard (green line adjacent to the windward mark data) by, at present, a rather indifferent 2mtrs ! Knowing accurate Leg Lengths and the current on-course wind conditions enables the Race Office to `tune´ his intended course for a more precise race time.
The ISAF Reference Position has been auto created by Race-Trax (the user can override this by directly entering the required Lat/Lon) based upon the offset range and bearing data entered and the current wind conditions (TWA).
The GeoFence tab enables all marks to be `tagged´ This effectively places an `anchor zone´ around each Mark (selectable range - typically 10mtrs) and ensures that any mark straying outside this `zone´ is brought to the Race Officer´s attention. Generally, a wayward mark indicates one that is dragging its ground tackle. Marks may be re-tagged or centred at any time by one simple mouse click.
